Product Engineer

This function plays a vital role at Texas Instruments which encompasses the following responsibilities and skills:

New Product Development

• Provide product related inputs for project review deliverables.

• Work with fab and assembly to establish manufacturing plan.

• Setup device in manufacturing and planning systems.

• Work with assembly sites to develop M/B diagrams, lead frame designs, and ensure assembly rule compliance for package manufacturability.

• Drive assembly sites for expedited customer sampling plans.

• Assist design and fab in corner lot definition.

Product Characterization

• Define and track characterization plan to confirm manufacturability to datasheet specifications.

• Work with validation engineers in leveraging various post-silicon lab and ATE platforms to characterize the chip.

• Summarize results in characterization and specification compliance reports.

• Perform yield and distribution analysis.

Product Qualification

• Negotiate qualification plans.

• Reliability board design, layout checks and debug support.

• Overlook qualification execution including stress tests and ATE readpoints.

• Lead problem solving teams for issues that arise from qualification.

Finalize Production Test Conditions

• Implement production guardbanding and outlier controls.

• Review established test limits with team.

• Work with test engineering to put together production test plans that enable cost entitlement and achieve high quality standards.

Basic Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's of Electrical Engineer, Computer Engineering, or related

  2. 5+ years prior experience in the semiconductor field in product engineering or related disciplines.

  3. Understanding of the IC product development process, from concept to volume production

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  1. Have a solid understanding of the tools and process flows used in semiconductor wafer fabs and assembly sites.

  2. Have experience with JESD47 and AEC-Q100 based qualifications.

  3. Have cross-functional collaboration skill-set able to work with design, verification, test, char, apps, etc.

  4. Have experience with product engineering activities such as yield improvement, GRR, and test time reduction.

  5. Have a solid working knowledge of electronic devices and circuits and semiconductor test techniques.

  6. Be able to own qualification results and problem solving, not just qualification hardware and execution. Not just be a middle man from the reliability lab technicians to the design teams.

  7. Be able to implement and manage plans that ensure qualification hardware / software are robust and ready to hit the ground running as soon as samples are ready.

  8. Be able to clearly communicate functional needs to program management and to provide status updates in a timely manner.

  9. Have strong technical writing and communication skills.

  10. Have proven track record of proficiency with engineering statistical methods and data analysis tools.

  11. Be able to interpret and condition engineering data with a good grasp of circuit behaviors and application specific constraints. e.g. Know what data matters and what data does not.

  12. Know where the data is, how to extract it, how to drill down to value added results.

  13. Be self-driven and will never hesitate to ask “the right questions” and drive the team towards fact-based answers.

  14. When the data highlights a problem, be able to propose solutions. Be a problem solver, not a problem finder.

  15. Be able to be the go-to portal as development team’s interface with manufacturing and support organizations. And be well-respected from both sides.

  16. Know when to email, when to pick up the phone, and when to pay a visit. Know what needs to be said or done to drive results.

  17. Be able to work effectively with cross functional teams across geographical and cultural boundaries.
